What are Fraud, Waste and Abuse?

Fraud is the intentional deception or misrepresentation to obtain money, services or property of health care benefit program by means of false or fraudulent pretenses, representations or promises.

Waste is the over-utilization of services, billing errors or other practices that result in unnecessary costs.

Abuse is obtaining payment for items or services when there is no legal entitlement to that payment, but without knowing and/or intentional misrepresentation of facts to obtain payments.

How to Report Fraud, Waste and Abuse

LifeShare wants you to report suspected fraud, waste and abuse to us. We will thoroughly investigate. Reporting will help us to improve the services we provide and reduce health care costs. You may report anonymously. Information received will be treated as confidential. Information is only shared with those who have a valid need to know, such as state and federal agencies, law enforcement, LifeShare’s legal department, LifeShare directors or senior management.

LifeShare has a no-retaliation policy. Contact the Compliance Department immediately if you feel you have been retaliated against for reporting potential fraud, waste and abuse.
